So I thought it would be a good idea to start a blog for my friends and family to visit while I go away for 10 months to do Americorps NCCC. For those of you who don't know NCCC is a volunteer program where I work with a team, of about 10 people who are aged 18-24, on community service projects around the United States. The projects focus on one of Americorps NCCC six different areas: environment, education, public safety, unmet needs, homeland security, and disaster relief. Each project lasts 4-8 weeks in length and can be any of the 50 states.
So as of today, I am exactly 3 weeks away from leaving for Sacremento, CA where I will train to prepare me for my work with NCCC. Training will last about 4 weeks and from there I will go to my first project. I have already received a letter telling me that 60% of my projects will be in the gulf coast region still recovering from hurricanes.
Well this was just a stort introduction and I really hope I keep up with this. I think it will be a fun way for me to stay connected with friends and family back home. But I bet in reality like 3 people will actually read this.
